Market Report 1st Nov ‘17 – 15th Nov ‘17

Hello and welcome to the latest market report. Sorry for the extended break between this edition and the last but it does mean we have plenty to tell you about.

Vegetables
We have plenty of Mixed Squashes in stock. Boxes of toffee or chocolate dipped apples are also here; twenty apples per box. Fresh Broad Beans and Peas have finished but we can supply frozen as an alternative. Thankfully, the price and quality of Courgette is getting back to normal. The first Peppers and Cucumbers from Spain have started to arrive.

Salads
In the next two to three weeks all UK grown salad items will be coming to an end. That includes Lollo Rosso, Lollo Biondi, Oak Leaf and Frisse. Our stock will become new season French and better quality, if slightly more expensive.
All baby leaf salad items including Pousse Epinard and Red Chard will soon be Spanish. Rainbow Radish is back in season.

Best Buys: Heritage Beetroot, Heritage Tomatoes and Watercress.

Fruits
Cherries have now finished. Any left on the market are poor quality and expensive. Unfortunately, the same applies to Peaches, Nectarines and Apricots.

UK Strawberries have also finished for the season and our stock is now exclusively Dutch.
Sadly, UK Plums and Golden Plums have also come to an end.

All European grown Melons are being replaced by Brazilian new season varieties which are slightly more expensive but much better quality. Fresh Cranberries are starting to arrive but are still pricey. Lemons will soon be coming from Spain and Turkey as the seasons in South Africa and Argentina come to an end.

UK Rhubarb is no longer around but we do have a Dutch forced variety, however it is very expensive. In the coming weeks all European Grapes will be coming to an end and we will move to South American stock which due to the airfreight involved will be more expensive. The first Dutch Comice Pears have arrived in the market and new season Spanish Satsumas are in stock. We still have some UK grown Apples available. Choose from Cox, Royal Gala, Spartan and Russets.

Best Buys: Cox Apples, UK Gala Apples, Blueberries and UK Conference Pears.

We would like to remind everyone that we also supply an extensive range of dried goods and dairy products.
