Market Report 18th Sep ‘17 – 2nd Oct ‘17

Hello and welcome to the latest market report. Sorry for the extended break between this edition and the last but it does mean we have plenty to tell you about.

The first French Jerusalem Artichokes are arriving but remain expensive for the time being. If you can wait a week or two the price should come down significantly. Mixed Chantenay Carrots are back in season as are Piccolo Parsnips.

Loose English Corn on the Cob is still available and we now have Watermelon Radish, Chervil Root & Parsley Root all in stock.

A number of UK Squashes are also back in season. They include…
Kermit, Turks Turban, Harlequin, Pattison and Spaghetti.

We also have a wide variety of Wild Mushrooms available. Choose from Girolle, Trompette, Pied Blue, Cepes, Pied du Mouton and Chanterelle.

Best Buys: Heritage Carrots, Cauliflower, UK Savoy Cabbage, Spring Greens, UK Parsnips & Extra Small New Potatoes

We have plenty of UK grown salad items in stock at the moment. From Mizuna to Lollo Rossa lettuce, check out the list at the bottom of this report for inspiration.
Best Buys: UK Bok Choy, UK Chinese Leaf, UK Watercress & Tender Stem Broccoli

The season for Spanish Melons is coming to an end and while we wait for the Brazilian crop to take over you may experience a slight drop in quality while the price goes up. Hopefully this won’t last long.

Victoria Plums have now finished but we can get a President variety which is very similar.

Turkish Black Figs are great value and quality and we have some beautiful Italian Longboat Watrmelons too. Our Pears are also Italian.

The European Apple crop is smaller than in previous years but thankfully we have seen the first UK grown varieties arriving in the market. Cox, Bramley and Russet are all available.

Lastly, all European Cherries have finished. Our stock is now American and while the quality is good they cost a little more due to the airfreight involved in getting them here. Best Buys: Blueberries, Figs, Raspberries & Worcester Apples.

We would like to remind everyone that we also supply an extensive range of dried goods and dairy products.
