Market Report 6th - 20th September
welcome to this week’s Market Report, the first after the summer holidays.
We hope you enjoyed your break.
The past month has seen plenty of changes to the products available on the market;
Starting with Vegetables
All Potatoes have come down in price due to increased availability but Red Chilli and Aubergine have done the opposite and become more expensive owing to the short supply.
The first of this year’s Brussel Sprouts are starting to arrive but for the time being they will be quite expensive. Lastly, a number of wild mushroom varieties are back on the market after being out of season. They include; Cepes, Girolles, Pied Bleu, Trompette, Enoki and Pied du Mouton amongst others.
This week Best Buys include: Courgette, Savoy Cabbage, Spring Greens and Parsnips.
Moving onto Fruits;
Flat peaches, Greengages, Apricots and Gooseberries have all now finished.
We have moved to American Cherries which are not such good value for money due to the distance they have to travel.
Damsons however are in full swing and Cobnuts will be available for the next few weeks.
UK Cox’s apples have now started and Discovery and Worcester varieties are also on the market.
UK Conference Pears are readily available and finally; the season for Brazilian Figs is over and supply may be short while we wait for the first of the Turkish season to arrive.
This week the Best Buys include: UK Apples, UK Plums, Strawberries and Raspberries.
Salads: The second UK crop of the season is now in full swing.
Avacado is in short supply and as a result has risen in price but UK Watercress is now better quality and good value as are all tomatoes.
This week the Best Buys include all Cos Lettuce, Iceberg Lettuce, Spring Onions and Celery.
Please ask about our Special Offers: when placing your order. or click here.
We would like to remind everyone that we are able to supply an extensive range of both Dried Goods and Dairy.
We hope you enjoyed your break.
