Market Report 2 August - 1 September
Welcome to this week’s Market Report.
We have to inform you that it is the one and only Report this month, due to summer holiday, when the whole New Covent Garden Market is quiet and all the businesses are calm.
We will start producing the Market Reports as usual from September.
As the season is in full blossom, we are about to introduce few newcomers from both fruit and vegetable families.
Vegetables;
Jersey Potatoes have now finished, although we can offer Cornish Potatoes instead, which, unfortunately are packed dirty.
Plenty of new season vegetables started to appear in the Market, for example: UK Khol Rabi, UK Calvo Nero, UK Romanesco.
Also Red Kale and Purple Broccoli are in full swing now.
All produce are British origin.
This week Best Buys include: Broccoli, UK Carrot, UK Courgette, UK Savoy Cabbage, UK Spring Greens, UK New Potatoes.
Moving onto Fruits;
Due to a recent change of crop Pineapples are currently in short supply but this shouldn’t last long.
Because of that, the price is still unusually high.
Greengages and Victoria Plums are back in season.
So are Discovery Apples.
Within the next two weeks we should be able to supply Kate Apples and Worcester Apples which will appear on the Market.
All European Cherries are finished now, so we have to move on to US and Canadian Cherries, which are more expensive and worse quality, because of the air freight.
The season for European Kiwi has now finished and we are changing to the New Zealand variety which is better value and quality.
Season for Red Gooseberries is now finished.
This week the Best Buys include Figs, Plums, Raspberries, Pink Lady Apples.
Salads: The second UK crop of the season is now in full swing.
We are starting to sell UK Watercress, which is better value and quality than European.
Also the Rainbow Chard is back in season.
Please ask about our Special Offers: when placing your order. or click here.
We would like to remind everyone that we are able to supply an extensive range of both Dried Goods and Dairy.
