Happy new year to you all and welcome to this week’s Market Report, the first of 2012! Apologies for the lack of reports in recent weeks but after a busy festive period we are back to business as usual. Starting with Vegetables

Both UK Celery and Chinese Leaf Lettuce have finished and we have moved to Spanish. The season for Dutch Brussels Sprouts has also come to an end but the English variety is still available. Purple Broccoli is in full swing and UK Rhubarb is back in season and good quality. Asparagus however is in short supply and this has pushed the price up slightly. The same applies to Courgette. Red Kale is readily available and we have moved back to UK Cauliflower which has meant improved quality and value.

This week  Best Buys include: Broccoli, Leeks, Cauliflower, Parsnips and Avocado.


Moving onto Fruits

Plums have now finished and we are now stocking South African which are more expensive but much better quality. The price of Bananas may also increase due to reduced supply. Galia, Cantaloupe and Honeydew Melons are also in short supply at the moment. Strawberries, Limes and Avocado have all come down in price and are readily available. Blood Oranges and Apricots are also in full swing. Finally, some UK apples have finished but Cox, Russet and Braeburn are all still in stock.

Clementine, Apricot, Blood Orange, UK Apples, Strawberry, and Blueberry.

Salads:

UK Watercress is available again and Inca Tomatoes will still be around for the next few weeks but all English Cos Lettuce has finished and we have moved to Spanish. Lastly all Peppers are in short supply and this may lead to a price increase.

This week the Best Buys include all UK Watercress, Cherry Vine Tomato, Round Lettuce and Radicchio.
