Market Report 21st March ‘18 – 4th April ‘18

Hello and welcome to the latest market report. If the recent cold snap has got you down, fear not, as we have plenty of delicious fruit and veg to tell you about, hopefully putting a smile on your face and warming the cockles of your heart.

Vegetables
Heavy rain in Kenya has disrupted the supply of Beans, Sugar Snap Peas, Mange Tout and Tender Stem Broccoli. Unfortunately, this may result in a price rise while quality dips but as always we will do our best to avoid passing any increase in price onto our customers.

The wintery conditions and sub zero temperatures that arrived with ‘The Beast from the East’ have severely affected UK grown Savoy Cabbages and Cauliflowers. For a time we couldn’t supply the latter as they became so expensive but we hope to see both quality and price get back to normal as the weather improves – hopefully sooner rather than later.

Also due to the snow the season for Spring Green Cabbages has finished earlier than expected.

Best Buys: Broccoli, Primo Cabbage, Banana Shallots & Extra Small New Potatoes

Salads
On a more positive note we have seen the first of this season’s Dutch salad crop arriving in the market. This includes some beautiful Peppers and Cucumbers.
We also have plenty of fresh Wild Mushrooms available. Choose from Morel, Cepe, Chanterelle, Trompette, Pied de Mouton and Girolle.

Best Buys: Cos Lettuce, Baby Gem, Watercress, Pousse Epinard & Cherry Vine Tomatoes

Fruits
Nadorcotts are in short supply while we wait for a southern Moroccan crop to fully take over from those coming in from the north of the country.
Apples remain expensive due to crops being affected by bad weather last year. In addition the season for all UK grown apples is coming to an end and sadly, Cox are already unavailable.

Our White Grapes are now an Indian new crop and will be for the next eight weeks or so while Red Grapes are currently South African.

Stone fruits including Peach, Nectarine and Plum are in short supply due to a switch in supply from South African to South American. Quality may be affected in the short term.

Best Buys: Blueberries, Figs & Oranges

We would like to remind everyone that we also supply an extensive range of dried goods and dairy products.
